Track of the Week – Week Seven

‘Right Here Right Now’ by Giorgio Moroder feat. Kylie Minogue

From the album 74 is the New 24 (2015)

I think that it would be fair to say that, were it not for Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories and Moroder’s contribution to the album, this song would not have been made. Nor would I have seen one the most bizarre and enjoyable DJ sets of my life at Wireless Festival 2014. RAM breathed new life into Moroder’s career, opening up his back catalogue to new fans (like myself) and undoubtedly assisting him in pulling in big-name collaborations such as Minogue, Charli XCX and Britney Spears, to name a few, for 74 is the New 24, scheduled for release this spring.

Without any background to the careers of Moroder and Minogue besides considering the fact that the duo has a combined age of 120 one would expect a restrained song, perhaps a nice quiet ballad? Basically the complete opposite to the four-to-the-floor disco groove offered up by ‘Right Here Right Now’. Minogue’s vocal is flawless (much like the lady herself) and Moroder’s instrumentation takes cues from his collaboration with Daft Punk and Nile Rodgers as well as his incredible musical history (beating himself to a Golden Globe, writing the music for ‘Danger Zone’, bringing disco to the masses, etc). Trust me when I say that you’ll hear this song everywhere this year.
